The lodges; The lodges are
built using timber that originates from sustainable and correctly
managed forests. The company who built the lodges has a strong
commitment to the belief that stewardship of forest ecosystems
helps maintain the biodiversity, regeneration capacity and vitality
of the woodland ecosystem.
Here are Bluestone, we are also committed to
improving the ecological biodiversity of the area and are working
in partnership with the South and West Wales Wildlife Trust to
manage our whole site for the benefit of local species. Visit
our section on biodiversity for
more information.
Food; Almost all food
available to eat and buy at Bluestone is from local Welsh sources
(within the county or within Wales) largely because local
Pembrokeshire food products are delicious!
But because the Bluestone ethos is ‘sustainability’ which means we
support the local economy
and minimise our environmental impact as much as possible, by
reducing the impact of transporting goods where possible.
What can you do at home?
1. Shop locally;
support you local shops and tradesmen while reducing the
environmental costs of
transporting
food and products.
2. Refuse
carrier bags or take your own reusable bags – The Environment
Agency estimate that if
everyone
in the UK stopped using plastic bags and switched to using reusable
bags, we
would
save enough plastic bags to tie around the earth 103
times!
3. Avoid
disposable items e.g. cups unless made from recycled or
biodegradable materials.
4. Consider the
amount of packaging on products, can you choose not to use
packaging?
Or buy
an alternative with less packaging?
5. Think about
the cost of the products you are buying, someone somewhere may be
paying for the
cheap
commodities we enjoy here, also, spending a little more on a
quality product is cheaper in
the
long run as it usually lasts longer!
