Prehistoric Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire not only offers a spectacular coastline, beautiful scenery and an abundance of the renowned Pembrokeshire wildlife - it is also steeped in thousands of years of history. Pembrokeshire has an incredibly diverse range of historical heritage sites just waiting to be explored, and this is YOUR opportunity to experience it.

Ancient bluestone quarries, Castell Henllys and Nevern village

This historical tour will take you back in time to prehistoric Pembrokeshire. You will be picked up from Bluestone and on your way you will see the ancient bluestone quarries perched on the top of the Preseli Mountains, from which stones were transferred to form the oldest circle at Stonehenge. From here we drop down to Castell Henllys, this is a reconstructed prehistoric site of an Iron Age fort set in beautiful countryside, and is a compelling monument to our past. Here you will find a massive earthwork protected by colossal earth banks. After being whisked off to enjoy a delicious pub lunch (meal not included) we head off to the beautiful village of Nevern an enchanting and picturesque village steeped in history and legend, here you will see the famous St Brynach’s Church and the bleeding Yew Tree for which various legends exist; some say it bleeds for the wrongful hanging of a young man many years ago, others say it will bleed until there is a Welsh prince on the seat at Nevern Castle and another legend says it will bleed until the world is at peace.

Pentre lfan burial chamber

Our last stop will be the famous Pentre Ifan burial chamber which is the most popular megalithic site
in Wales, Pentre Ifan is a splendid burial chamber with a huge capstone delicately poised on three uprights. Once known as Arthurs' Quoit, Pentre Ifan means Ivan's Village. This monument, dating back to about 3500 BC and unusually oriented north-south, stands on the slopes of a ridge commanding extensive views over the Nevern Valley. Finally it’s back to present day and the comfort of Bluestone.
