The voyage will be a non-stop mixture of
sensitive wildlife observation and exhilaration.
Our trips are professionally guided and we’ll stop at all points of
interest to talk with you
about the island’s maritime heritage and to allow you to photograph
the stunning wildlife.
Voyages of Discovery is a true local
family business and is operated by expert guides and
skippers all of whom are highly experienced including a marine
biologist, former conservation
warden, oceanographer and RNLI Coxswains. They’re experience
coupled with the purpose-built vessels enable them to navigate the
island’s intricate coastline and tides which provides
breathtakingly close encounters.
RSPB Ramsey Island is famed for its
wildlife, notably its seal and bird populations. As home to
one
of the UK’s largest colonies of Atlantic Grey Seals Ramsey offers
superb seal watching. Their numbers peak in late summer and early
autumn when they have their pups but can be observed throughout the
year at close quarters. The strong tides of the Ramsey Sound also
hold a resident family of harbour porpoise which we see most
days.
On the western side of Ramsey is an
awesome, spellbinding and almost lunar landscape of deep
sea caves, towering sea cliffs and breathtaking rock gorges. We
venture into the caves no matter
what the state of tide staying just long enough to marvel at their
architecture.
Skimming across powerful tides, entering
the dramatic caves, navigating the intricate
shoreline together with the wildlife this is natural interest at
its best.
