Off Shore Islands Whale and Dolphin Watch
Set off on an exciting adventure in search of Pembrokeshire’s
magnificent marine wildlife. This guided tour takes you to
Grassholm Island and the surrounding waters for a unique coastal
experience.
Navigating into deep sea caves, through gorges
and around spectacular cliffs you will observe colonies of birds,
seals and porpoises at close hand - a wonderful opportunity for
families and photographers considered one of the UK’s prime whale
watching locations.
The Voyage departs from St Justinian (2 miles
from St David’s) and transfers are provided to and from Bluestone.
The vessel will take you firstly to the south end of Ramsey
Island. From there, its westwards to the Irish Sea and the offshore
Island of Grassholm. En route there are normally good sightings of
harbour porpoise. Grassholm is a spectacular sight being covered in
60,000 breeding Gannets and forms the second largest colony in the
Northern Hemisphere. This small island also offers some excellent
opportunities to see Atlantic Grey Seals that fish the turbulent
waters.
From here, we Sweep along the edges of the Celtic Deep where you
will enjoy the opportunity to see Whales and Dolphins in their
natural habitat. Sightings include Common, White Sided, Bottlenose
and Rissos Dolphin, Orca (Killer Whale), Minke Whale, Fin Whale and
Pilot Whale. The abundant sea life is derived from nutrient rich
water welling up to the surface as it reaches offshore reefs. This
creates a food cycle from phytoplankton up to the mammoth Whales in
an area acknowledged for its biodiversity.
Your expert guide and skipper will personally tailor each voyage to
your needs ensuring an unrivalled voyage of a lifetime. The
excursion is operated by a long standing local family company with
highly qualified and experienced personnel including
oceanographers, fishermen, scientists and coastguard. All the Rigid
Hull Inflatables have been designed & built for this type of
excursion and are equipped with full inboard seating and the latest
navigational aids. Depending on the time of year underwater cameras
and ultra sound echo sounders may be used to increase the
likelihood of a sighting.

and we can't always guarantee sightings.
