Castles of Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire offers the opportunity to explore some of the most impressive monuments of the Middle Ages. Visit the Guest Information Centre when you arrive at Bluestone and you can be guided to the most impressive in the area, such as Llawhaden Castle, Carew Castle and Pembroke Castle.

Llawhaden Castle

The magnificent Llawhaden Castle is a 12th century earth and timber ringwork fortress, founded by Bishop Bernard. It was built as a fortified palace of the bishops of St David's, and has since been captured, destroyed and totally rebuilt by the14th century.

Carew Castle

Carew Castle has a history spanning 2,000 years and is set in a stunning location, overlooking a 23 acre millpond. The site incorporates an impressive 11th century Celtic Cross, the only restored Tidal Mill in Wales, a medieval bridge and a picnic area all linked by a delightful mile round
walk.

Pembroke Castle

This mighty fortress is largely intact, and its endless passages, tunnels and stairways are great fun to explore.
