7 Beaches to Visit this Winter

By Kristina Gore Broad Haven South Beach in Winter

Sand, sea and su...snow? The beach may not be the first place that springs to mind for a day trip this winter but we think it should be! With the same stunning views, fewer crowds and a more peaceful atmosphere than during the summer months, we can’t think of anywhere better to spend a crisp winter’s day in Pembrokeshire.

Which beach would we recommend for a winter’s day out?

You didn’t really think we could choose just one, did you? To help you decide which beach to visit this winter, we’ve put together a list of our favourites:

Broad Haven North

Broad Haven North is an award winning Blue Flag Beach and unsurprisingly, one of the most popular beaches in Pembrokeshire. Its many rock pools make it the perfect destination for adventurous families with little ones who love to explore.

Freshwater West

The must-visit beach for any film fanatic! Not only is Freshwater West breathtakingly beautiful, it has also famously featured in films such as Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood.

Tenby Castle Beach

One of three Blue Flag beaches in Tenby, Castle Beach is our favourite pick for winter. It’s just a short walk from the town centre where there are lots of places to pick up a hot drink and warm up after a relaxing winter’s walk.

Little Haven

Next door to Broad Haven North is Little Haven Beach. There’s a convenient ramp leading down to the beach which makes Little Haven the ideal beach to visit for guests with pushchairs or wheelchairs.

Another firm favourite with holiday makers is Saundersfoot beach. Just a stone’s throw away from the stunning harbour and local village, you’ll find many a place to sit and admire the view.

If you aren’t a lover of sand then Newgale could be the beach for you! Backed by a high pebble bank, Newgale is a great family beach with the same stunning views and costal fresh air as its sandy Pembrokeshire counterparts.

Broad Haven South

Last but by no means least is Broad Haven South. A popular spot, this lovely sandy beach can be accessed from the car park at the southern end or as a spectacular surprise at the end of a lovely walk through the Bosherston Lily Ponds.
