Coastal walking breaks
Compelled to haul on the rucksack, lace up the boots and strike out across the landscape? Well, have we got some landscape for you! We owe our dramatic coastline to the local geology and it’s particularly apparent around all the wiggly edges.
If you have even a passing interest in the underlying geology, look out for folded rock layers, banding, glacial valleys and the prominent Old Red Sandstone and Carboniferous limestones which proclaims our tropical (yes, really) heritage.
Some hardy types make it their mission to cover all 186 miles of the coast path, but if you aren’t feeling quite that ambitious you might at least see how many of the 125 footbridges, 280 gates and 193 stiles you can tick off your list. Sounds like thirsty work? - don’t worry, there’s also a fine array of watering holes ready to oblige with a pint or a cuppa along the way.
