Bluestone Wins Prestigious Environmental Award
Bluestone National Park Resort’s commitment to environmental responsibility has been recognised with a prestigious national award.
At the Business in the Community 2010 awards held in Cardiff this week, Bluestone CEO William McNamara was presented with the Wales Environment Award.
An annual celebration of responsible business in Wales, the BitC awards are the UK’s most influential, independent, peer-assessed corporate responsibility awards.
To win the Environment award, Bluestone had to demonstrate how it had reduced impact on the environment. It did this by highlighting a wide range of design and operational measures, including a biomass-fuelled energy centre; solar panels to provide hot water for 100 lodges and energy reduction targets incorporated into every manager’s performance indicators.
Other measures included a range of energy-saving initiatives and joint project with Envirowise to reduce incoming packaging, which cut by 34% the amount of waste going to landfill.
Mr McNamara commented: “I am delighted that Bluestone has won this award and honoured to accept it on behalf of the Bluestone team.
“With the recession and the myriad difficulties inherent in getting any new business off the ground, it’s fair to say that the last couple of years have had their challenges. But our commitment to environmental responsibility has never wavered.
“We know full well that there will always be room for improvement, and never room for complacency - but I feel this award to be recognition of the huge effort that the Bluestone team has made already, is making as we speak, and will continue to make.”
