If anyone who has seen powerboats zipping up and down Milford Haven Waterway at impressive speeds wonders where they come from, it is surprising how many adventure and watersports providers there are offering powerboating experience in Pembrokeshire.
There seems to be a flourishing business sector providing powerboat trips and courses around the Milford Haven Waterway and on other parts of the coast.
And there are many powerboats in the marinas all round the county coastline, berthed and moored among the hundreds of luxury yachts, launches and motor boats, many of which never seem to move. The boats are expensive, the marina costs high, and it seems a mystery who can afford such luxuries, many of which seem to be used simply as weekend or holiday dormitories, never feeling the sea swell under their keels.
One of the major powerboat providers is the Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre at Cleddau Reach, Pembroke Dock, where watersports of all kinds are taught and practised by schools, colleges, individuals and clubs from all over the UK. Power-boating is high on their list of activities. Run by the Princes Trust, all its profits are directly invested in the future of young people, promoting social inclusion, character and confidence building adventure and economic activity. Their contact numbers are: 01646-622013 or firstname.lastname@example.org or princes-trust.org.uk/adventure.
