Tenby to Saundersfoot Coast Walk
Tenby should be on everyone’s ‘must-see’ list when they visit Pembrokeshire. Wander the little streets filled with shops and pubs, marvel at the town’s ancient stone walls, scoff ice cream on the sandy beaches, or take a boat trip to Caldey Island.
It’s easily a day out on its own so you could tie in a morning walk with an afternoon of exploring. Your destination on this walk - Saundersfoot - is a much more compact version of Tenby but has a charm of its own with a beautiful beach. The picturesque harbour has plenty of places to eat and drink while taking in the sea views.
The walk from Tenby to Saundersfoot is a bit longer and not the easiest - there are some descents and ascents that might tire children out but certainly wouldn’t be beyond them. It’s four-and-a-half miles so you’ll probably just want to go in the one direction rather than going there and back again. The best plan might be to walk one way and catch the bus back - it’s a 15-minute ride and the buses come regularly.

Distance from Bluestone: It’s a 25-minute drive to the South Beach car park in Tenby, or if you want to go the other way round, Saundersfoot is closer - an 18-minute drive.
Toilets: There are public toilets in Tenby and Saundersfoot
Parking: South Beach car park has plenty of spaces in Tenby and Saundersfoot has a big pay and display car park right on the harbour.
Food and drink: Both Tenby and Saundersfoot are well stocked for options - fish and chips aplenty!
1. Start at Tenby’s South beach car park and walk down towards the beach, taking some time to look around and turning left, and following the roads and paths that follow the coastline. It will take you past Paragon Beach, Castle Beach, and St Catherine's Island - with its 19th-century fort.
2. The coastal path then takes you past 13th century Tenby Castle, where you can pick up a circular walk to tour the area and look out to the island.
3. Take the coast path north, past Tenby North beach, picking up a road called The Croft which will turn into the coast path.
4. Follow the path up the coastline, through a wooded area to Monkstone Beach, where some steps will take you down to the sand.
5. Walk around Monkstone Point on the coast path through Rhode Wood before arriving in Saundersfoot, where you’ll be presented with the village’s Blue Flag beach.
6. Stop here for fish and chips and then if you’re catching the bus back, head to the arcade just off the beachfront.
7. If you want to keep going the coast path will take you to Amroth with its half-mile-long, flat, sandy beach, and rock pools.
