A Day In The Life Of The Bike and Buggy Hire Team at Bluestone

By Kathryn Slade Bike Buggy and Trailer on Bluestone Hill

In the last couple of years cycling has become incredibly popular! In 2015 over 100,000 more cyclists are riding bikes at least once a week than were in October 2012. Maybe it’s the Hoy and Wiggins effect from the London Olympics! We love cycling here at Bluestone so I went to catch up with our bike and buggy hire team to see what they get up to on their average day. I spoke to Senior Assistant, Alun.

Bike and Buggy Hire
"The morning starts by opening up the Bike and Buggy Hire Centre on park. Most mornings there is someone waiting for the team to arrive so we open up and get things sorted for the day ahead. The bikes and buggies are really popular with our guests and there are also trailers and tag-ons for smaller children too so the whole family can get out and about exploring together.

The retail area is really popular and we offer a helmet fitting service too. During the day we get lots of people coming in asking for the best cycle routes to take. As we are all keen cyclists there are a few trails that we can personally recommend and we have maps which our guests can take with them on their adventures! It is such a beautiful area there is plenty of exploring to be done and on a bike you can get to see even more of it.

Cycling On Resort
There are lots of different aspects to the roles in bike and buggy hire and in the afternoon we rotate around maintenance, activities and customer service. There are 125 buggies on resort and we check these all regularly to make sure they are kept in good condition. There are almost 200 bikes and add-ons too that all need to be looked after by the team. We also maintain the miniature 4x4 off road safari course for children, which is a really popular activity!

Every day is different in our department and it’s great."

Keep checking our blogs over the next few weeks to see how I got on a cycling adventure around Bluestone!
