Bath Bomb Recipe

By Kathryn Slade Bath Bomb

I’ve made it my mission to make 2017 the year of homemade gifts and so I took some inspiration from our Well Spa here at Bluestone and tried making my own bath bombs.

They look beautiful wrapped up with ribbon for a Birthday or special occasion and even better in your own bath if you are the one in need of a treat!

Give this recipe a go for a bath bomb with a seaside twist, close your eyes and imagine you are laying on one of Pembrokeshire’s glorious beaches basking in the sunshine!

You will need:

  • 1/2 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup citric acid
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch – I used arrowroot powder
  • 1/4 cup coarse and fine sea salt
  • 1 tbsp. oil
  • 1 tbsp. arame seaweed
  • Blue food coloring
  • 15 drops of essential oil

Method

  1. Start by adding your dry ingredients into a large glass bowl.
  2. Then add your tablespoon of oil drop by drop mixing the ingredients together as you go
  3. Continue to mix well as you add your essential oils drop by drop. This should stop it from fizzing everywhere!
  4. Separate a few spoons of the mixture into a new bowl. You’ll use this to make the blue part.
  5. Add the food colouring a drop at a time until you like the colour. You will need to keep stirring to stop the fizzing.
  6. Crunch up the seaweed and add it into the blue mixture.
  7. Take some of the non-coloured mixture in your hand and squeeze it into a clump.
  8. Fill up the mould a bit of the time until it is almost full then add some of  the blue seaweed mixture to finish it off. Be sure to make sure it is packed in tightly to stop it from crumbling when you take it out. You’ll need to do this step until you have 2 complete halves to make the round bath bomb.
  9. Then attach the halves together with an elastic band and leave them overnight.
  10. In the morning you’ll be able to remove them from the moulds and you should have a perfect bath bomb ready for relaxation!
