Celebrating National Parks Week 2016

By Kathryn Slade Martins Head

National Parks Week celebrates everything that is brilliant about Britain’s national parks. How do we know they are brilliant? Well Bluestone is very proud to call Pembrokeshire’s National Park home and what makes it extra special is that is the UK’s only coastal National Park.

As well as being home to Bluestone, it is also home to some truly stunning coastal scenery, unique landscapes and ecosystems and some pretty amazing wildlife too!

This year National Parks Week runs from Monday 25 to Sunday 31 July 2016 and to celebrate we are sharing our favourite Pembrokeshire Adventures with you so that you can enjoy them during your visit so be sure to check our blogs throughout the week to find out more.

If you are lucky enough to be in Pembrokeshire during National Parks Week then you will be able to take part in some great activities that are suitable for the whole family!

Carew Castle is set just set 7 miles from the Bluestone Resort and is a fantastic castle to visit during your stay as it is rich with history spanning over 2000 years. From 11am-4pm on Monday 25th July to Friday 29th July they will be hosting a Robin Hood Adventure to celebrate. During your visit you should also pop along to Carew Tidal Mill which is the only restored tidal Mill in Wales and one of just five in the UK.

Step back in time on a trip to Castell Henllys which is 23 miles from Bluestone. The expertly-recreated settlement of Iron Age roundhouses are built exactly where they would have stood more than 2000 years ago. Learn about the people who lived there and other stories around the fire for their special Tales of Adventures event with local storytellers on Thursday 28th of July at 11am and 2pm.

During your stay you must visit St David’s, the UK’s smallest city and home to the patron Saint of Wales’ cathedral. Just 24 miles from Bluestone Oriel y Parc is hosting a 100 years of Roald Dahl arty workshop on Tuesday the 26th of July between 1pm and 3pm. Take part in creative challenges and inspire your imagination with the help of some classic Roald Dahl stories. After take a walk down to the Cathedral and explore the pretty little city!
