Day In The Life of a Housekeeper

By Kathryn Slade Careers at Bluestone

Changeover Day at Bluestone...

As Housekeepers we arrive at our back of house building at 10am to pick up our allocation slips and our buckets. We normally have to clean 3 lodges in 5.5 hours this can be very challenging at times but we all work together as a team to make sure it gets done!

When we arrive on resort our linen is delivered by the linen department and gets to us between 10am and 12pm. After lunch they will then come and collect the used linen.

We have about an hour and 45 minutes to spend in each of our lodges. In this time we make the beds, clean the bathrooms and kitchen and also dust, hoover and mop.

When we have completed our allocations our team Supervisor will check the lodges to ensure that we haven’t missed anything and check for any maintenance issues. An inventory checker will also visit the accommodation to ensure there are the right amounts of plates, glasses, mugs, cutlery etc.

We also have General Assistants who look after the outsides of the accommodation to ensure they are free from litter, paths swept and that the outside furniture is clean.

As you can imagine we are rather a large Housekeeping Team. There are 220 of us to be precise! In order to meet the high standards that we expect of ourselves we have a six-week training schedule before we start.

On non-changeover we work keeping the other buildings on resort tidy, like the restaurants, pubs, Spa and the Adventure Centre. Our Studios apartments are like hotel rooms for short or one night breaks, so we clean and service them when required.

We like to keep busy and we know that no one really wants to clean when they are on holiday so we can also provide a Maid Service! We are able to do this between 10am and 12pm every day so if you want a break from making the beds and tidying up, let us do it for you.

All in all we are here to make sure you have the wow factor when you enter your accommodation, if not tell us and we will make every effort to meet your expectations.
