Great Easter escapes and family adventures in spring 2019

Spend your UK Easter break somewhere new and exciting in 2019, and feel refreshed and energised with a family holiday to Wales.

Visit Wales have officially named 2019 the Year of Discovery and it’s easy to see why. For we are a nation packed with fascinating places to explore, thrill-seeking activities and tranquil escapes.

We believe Pembrokeshire is the perfect destination for your family to make memories on an Easter holiday that will last a lifetime. Spend days roaming the natural beauty of our coast and countryside, evenings celebrating with hearty and delicious local cuisine before ambling back under magical starry skies.

Here are a few reasons we think Pembrokeshire, and Wales, will make an unforgettable Easter break.

Nature comes alive

Bluestone crafts

Far, far from busy towns and cities, spring fills the Bluestone resort with life at Easter. You’ll see frogs happily hopping around our Lake, the trees in the 500 acres of ancient forest chirping with birdsong and all sorts of creatures buzzing along our Nature Trails.

Go a little further afield and discover colourful puffins on our world class coastline, dolphins and porpoises splashing in the water and endless rolling countryside to watch the wildlife in.

Nature is at the heart of everything we do on our resort. Children from four to 12 can become Bluestone Rangers and learn and play in our forest - building dens, making masks and even brewing nettle tea.

We encourage little ones to enjoy and respect the outdoors and spring provides brilliant opportunities to get a little closer to nature (and have a blast doing it). It’s all part of our Free Range manifesto.

Brilliant bluebells

Easter bluebells

Every spring, forest floors across Wales put on a breathtaking show of colour when carpets of beautiful bluebells appear. There can be few more Instagrammable sights this Easter and Bluestone’s ancient forest is no exception to the violet-blue bonanza.

You should know that according to Pembrokeshire legend these are not just pretty petals though. They are, in fact, 'fairy flowers' - and local lore tells of fairies using the magical bluebells to capture unsuspecting passers-by - especially children!

Myths and legends

Myths and Legends at Bluestone

Did you know that Wales is home to the world’s most concentrated collection of turrets, baileys and moats that make up the hundreds of castles just waiting to be discovered by young, awestruck explorers?

In Pembrokeshire alone there’s dozens of castles to find - like the imposing Carew Castle that sits on a moat straight from a fairy tale just six miles from Bluestone.

By the coast you’ll find stories of wrecks, smugglers and dastardly pirates lingering tiny coves. Visit the tiny 14th century chapel at the foot of the cliffs near Bosherton that was home to the hermit St Govan or explore the myriad of myths surrounding the 147-year-old St David at his cathedral.

Back at Bluestone you’ll find Easter is in the middle of our Myths and Legends season - with Captain Black Bart entertaining you at dinner, our coast-inspired Legends of the Sea parade and plenty of workshops to get creative with.

Adventure filled days

Skywire

Shake off the last traces of winter and spring into a Welsh adventure this Easter. Wales has 800 miles of coastal path to discover, with endless epic experiences and seascapes to survey along the way. There’s rugged rocks, dramatic cliffs, hidden inlets and pretty little harbours to hunt out.

But don’t limit yourself to walking it - try leaping off the cliffs in your first taste of coasteering or journey to the mystical islands on the horizon - home to some of the world’s most protected species.

Voyage into Bluestone’s fun-filled Steep Ravine and take on our heart-stopping Sky Wire, challenge yourself to the High Ropes course, climb impossibly tall trees and battle it out in the forest with our laser combat Woodland Warriors activity.

And the adventure doesn’t have to stop in the evening. Dine in the middle of forest, toast marshmallows over a roaring fire and dance the night away on the tables at the Camp Smokey shindig - one of the most memorable activities at Bluestone.

Take a breath

Well Spa bath

First timers to Pembrokeshire might not notice it straight away but there’s a different pace of life out west.

We might well be up at first light embracing everything the day has to offer but there’s something to be said for spending lazy Easter evenings staring up at star-filled skies, well-fed after a day of fresh air, excitement and adventure.

And while the coast is fuel for so much discovery, it’s also the inspiration behind our Well Spa Retreat - full of natural sea-sourced treatments that will have you refreshed and revitalised. Go on a very different kind of adventure in our Thermal Rooms, Hydroptherapy Pool and experience the natural healing powers of the sea in our Seaweed Bath.
