How to Make a Recycled Orange Juice Carton Boat

By Kathryn Slade

When the weather is chilly outside it’s the perfect chance to get crafty on the weekend. Here's our how to guide for making a brilliant boat perfect for little ones bath times that they can help with too!

For this crafty activity you will need:

  • A Tetra-Pak Carton
  • Paint
  • Craft Knife (Adults Only)
  • A Drinking Straw
  • A Piece of Fabric or an A4 piece of card
  • Blutak

What you need to do:

  • Wash out an empty juice carton and leave it to dry.
  • Lay the carton on its side, so that the carton has a "pointed" bow.
  • Then carefully cut a rectangle out of the top of the carton with the craft knife.
  • Paint the carton completely I would suggest using a strong colour if your carton is brightly coloured. It might need a couple of coats if you want it to look like new.
  • Then when dry you can decorate it how you like! We went for a simple nautical red and white theme.
  • Pierce a small hole just in front of the rectangular hole you can use the craft knife to do this.
  • Insert your straw here and secure it to the bottom of the boat with some Blutak.
  • Then tie a piece of fabric around it so that it looks like a sail. You could also use a triangle of paper like we did!
  • Run a bath or a sink of water and set the little boat off on its first adventure!
