Ironman Wales 2015 - All You Need to Know!

Pembrokeshire is preparing to welcome the 2,400 athletes representing 30 countries for the fifth Ironman Wales triathlon on September 13th 2015.
It is world renowned as being one of the toughest challenges on the Ironman calendar. The Ironman challenge consists of a 2.4 mile sea swim followed by a 112 mile bike ride which is rounded off with a 26.2 marathon distance run! If that’s not enough of a challenge they all have to be complete within 17 hours. 50% of this year’s entrants will be embarking on their first Ironman challenge and there are lots of people representing Pembrokeshire.
Ironmen swimming in sea at Tenby

This year the 2.4 mile swim takes place off Tenby’s North Beach at around 7am. It is a mass start off the beach for a two lap course with all the entrants starting together. The bike course is a two loop course around South Pembrokeshire following spectacular coastal roads for most of the way! The marathon distance run takes place in and around Tenby around a four loop run with the finish line along Tenby’s picturesque Esplanade.
The Ironman Wales event offers 50 qualifying slots for the Ironman World Championships in Kailau-Kona Hawaii for 2016. Those tough enough to make the cut in their age group will then have 13 months to prepare for the big day in Hawaii for the ultimate Ironman challenge!

There is a great park and ride service into Tenby which runs between Carew, Tenby and Saundersfoot. You can catch the bus from Carew Airfield which is a 9 mile drive from Bluestone.

We would like to wish Mike and Tom from the Blue Lagoon the best of luck with their Ironman journey this weekend!

Our own Megan Tapper attended the event this weekend and watched on in awe of the Iron Men and Women that were brave enough to take part.
