Making Metallic Initials

By Kristina Gore

The season of Winter Lights is here! For our resort, this means that our Enchanted Illuminated Walk is back and so are the magical creatures such as Fairies and Giants who live along our Nature Trail!

To celebrate the awakening of their Secret Fairy Village, our Fairies have asked us to share some of their favourite shiny and sparkly crafts for everyone to try at home.

Let’s make a decorative initial!

What you’ll need:

  • Cardboard
  • A Pencil
  • Scissors
  • String
  • Tinfoil
  • PVA Glue
  • Shoe Polish
  • A sponge

How to make it:

Step 1

Sketch your initial onto a piece of cardboard and then cut it out using a pair of scissors.

Step 2

Draw a pattern onto the cardboard initial before building the design up using PVA glue and string.

Step 3

Once the string has dried, paint the cardboard with glue and then cover it with the tinfoil. Work the tinfoil around the string, making sure that the pattern is visible underneath.

Step 4

Lightly dab the tinfoil with shoe polish to create a tarnished effect.

Step 5

Wait for the shoe polish to dry and voila! Display your new decorative initial wherever you would like!
