Mumsnet Cardiff Weekend Break Review

By Sarah Debnam Lodges In Sunshine

When we arrived at Bluestone we were instantly impressed, we didn't even need to get out of the car to check in! The drive through check-in Mumsnet Localstaff member was very friendly, even spending time chatting to the children and told them about the sky walk in the activity centre, he challenged them to beat his record time! We were all a bit tired and grumpy from the long drive but it was nice to see a friendly face.

We made our way to the Dinas lodge we were allocated and walked in to put the kettle on, however we were in awe of the lodge and had to explore it all first, the outstanding quality of the building, furniture, kitchen and bathrooms (plural!) were fantastic, and we really couldn't have expected anything better.

The weather was quite pleasant the first evening (and the whole weekend really) so we opened the french doors wide, unpacked and let the children have a little run around outside. We then went to the wonderful Farmhouse Grill where we were welcomed by the glorious smell of grilled food, just what you need after a long drive and traffic jams. We ordered some chicken and burgers to fill ourselves up and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Then we walked back to the lodge and collapsed into some of the most amazing beds, the clean white sheets and the blissful quiet outside meant we all had a gorgeous nights sleep.

In the morning we enjoyed some amazing patries from the bakery, what better way to start the day than with a coffee and croissant? It was all so fresh and delicious.

We the had a wonderful day at one of the amazing Pembrokeshire beaches, we went to Tenby South Beach, and we weren't disappointed at all, it was spotlessly clean, and there was plenty of space to sit and relax. Sandcastles were built, shells collected and legs were buried in the sand, we even had some chips from the lovely traditional chip shop and ice cream, bliss!

Of course whilst we were at Bluestone we had to try out the Blue Lagoon, and we thought it was the best swimming pool we have ever seen! The lazy river was a huge hit especially as it went outside, and there was a slide option for everyone, the small children even had their own little pool to play in, with a whole range of fountains and exciting things to see. We really liked that there were life guards everywhere so we were all in safe hands.  Especially since the wave machine was so powerful and fun!

On the Last day of the weekend we decided to try out the adventure centre and walk around the lake, the adventure centre was brilliant, the children ran around the place like little hurricanes and didn't know what to play on first! The bouncy castles and tube slides looked like lots of fun and the crazy golf was great for all the family. We didn't try any of the planned activities but we have heard good things about them especially for the smallest visitors.

Activities Tent in Village

We walked through the little village which was full of children happily playing on the playground and parents relaxing in the the lake was something else, the nature thriving there was amazing to watch, from mini beasts in the bug hotel to the baby ducklings we came across.

We spent a long while just taking in the view and winding down for the day and even though I had seen many photos of Bluestone and thought it looked like a wonderful place but it wasn't until we visited that I realised how special it is. There is really something for everyone, nature, activities, great food and beatiful surroundings in Pembrokeshire. We were very impressed and will definitely be choosing Bluestone as a family holiday destination in the future.
