Narberth Carnival 2014

By Simon Morris Narberth Carnival Fire Engine

This weekend we spent our Saturday enjoying the sights and sounds of Narberth Carnival.

Just five miles from Bluestone and central to Pembrokeshire, Narberth is a quaint picturesque own with lovely little shops and friendly people. It’s a great place to visit any time of year, but as the town’s annual Civic Week ended with the carnival, the atmosphere of fun and frivolity made it even more special.

The weather was sunny and hot and the pavements were crowded with people clamouring for the best view of the parade. Starting off with the mayor and other dignitaries waving at the crowds, the local fire engine put in an appearance alongside a high-energy and even-higher-volume samba band which succeeded in getting everyone’s toes tapping.

Then came the colourful procession of floats. The smiling carnival queen, flanked by her waving attendants, gracefully moved along the road followed by a comical ‘Despicable Me’ entry, little yellow minions included. A summery surf-inspired group of young swimmers passed by and the local dance school troupe impressed with their ballet moves.

Born and brought up in Narberth, I saw a lot of familiar faces and had the chance to catch up with some old friends. All in all it was a great day to relax and enjoy Narberth.
