Our Best Picks of Christmas TV For 2015

By Kathryn Slade Christmas Tree Decorations

There are only 9 days left now until Christmas Day!  Christmas TV is always a highlight over the festive season. This year is just the same and there are some great specials to plan into your festivities! Here is our pick of the best TV this Christmas.

Christmas Eve

Carols From King's (BBC Two, 5.45pm)
It isn’t Christmas without some traditional carols and you won’t get much better than this treat from King’s College Cambridge.

Christmas Day

Stick Man (BBC One, 4.45pm)
I am so excited for this adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s much-loved children’s book Stick Man’s. An impressive cast provides the vocals including Martin Freeman, Hugh Bonneville, Jennifer Saunders and Rob Brydon.

Doctor Who (BBC One, 5.15pm)
Join the Doctor on another festive adventure where he gets plucked from anti-Christmas seclusion when a call from a crashed spaceship sends him on a super-villain chase across the galaxy.

Strictly Christmas Special (BBC One, 6.15pm)
The sparkling extravaganza features six winners and contestants from previous series! Dancing for the glitterball are Abbey Clancy, Alison Hammond, Harry Judd, Lisa Snowdon, Tom Chambers and the winner of this years The People’s Strictly for Comic Relief Cassidy Little.

Call the Midwife (BBC One, 7.30pm)
A guaranteed post-turkey tear-jerker, this festive edition sees the ladies of Nonnatus House preparing to celebrate Christmas 1965 with a festive bus trip to see the lights in Regent Street, and a visit from a BBC TV crew to record a carol concert.

Downton Abbey (ITV, 8.45pm)
I don’t know whether I am prepared for this as it’s not just a Christmas special, it’s the last ever visit to Downton Abbey.  The plot has been kept under wraps but I am hoping that Julian Fellowes will finally let Lady Edith have a little bit of happiness!

Mrs Brown’s Boys (BBC One, 9.45pm)
There’s another festive comedy double from Brendan O’Carroll and the gang. Agnes is determined to have a peaceful holiday this year but with Buster installing a very odd Christmas tree there are surprises in store for everyone.

Michael McIntyre’s Big Christmas Show (BBC One, 10.25pm)
Comedian McIntyre returns with another Christmas day special recorded at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and packed to the rafters with (as yet unspecified) top class singers and assorted other guest stars – and about as much festive merriment as fans can take.

New Year's Day

Billionaire Boy (BBC One, 7pm)
Another festive adaptation of David Walliam’s brilliant book, this time it’s the turn of Billionaire Boy. 12 year-old Joe has all the money in the world thanks to his toilet roll inventor dad but he doesn’t have any friends!

Sherlock (BBC One, 9pm)
It has been a very long wait for the return of the consulting detective! This one-off sees the Sherlock and Watson time-travel back to a Baker Street of steam trains, hansom cabs and frock-coats. The Abominable Bride will see a new story drape in Conan Doyle’s original setting! I can’t wait!
