Pembrokeshire Prepares For Long Course Weekend 2016

By Kathryn Slade Triathlon Swimmers

Pembrokeshire is preparing to host one of the most difficult triathlons in Wales- the Long Course Weekend! It’s the perfect preparation event for IRONMAN Wales which is quickly approaching in September.

So what is Long Course Weekend? Well it is an IRONMAN distance triathlon split over three days.

The weekend splashes off on the Friday evening, 7pm with The Wales Swim, a 2.4 mile open water challenge off Tenby’s North Beach.

On Saturday it’s onto The Wales Sportive when athletes get on their bike for a 112 mile cycle through Welsh countryside. Cyclists set off in waves starting at 7am from Salterns Car Park, Tenby. The first bikes are expected back at 1pm.

Sunday’s is a day of rest right? Well not really for these athletes as there is just a quick run left to complete in the form of the 26.2 mile The Wales Marathon.

Runners set off at different times;

Marathon starts at 10am (Tenby Castle)
Half marathon starts at 12pm (Main Street, Pembroke)

The first runner is expected back at 12.30 (Tudor Square, Tenby).

At around 4.30pm there will be a trophy presentation at De Valence, Upper Frog Street, Tenby.

If you are staying at Bluestone over the Long Course Weekend 2016 (8th to 10th of July) then why not head to Tenby and see what’s going on!

There is always a brilliant atmosphere there and if you have never seen a triathlon event of this scale before it’s really amazing.
