Staff Climbing Club at Bluestone

The Activities team here at Bluestone have set up a new initiative to promote improved employee fitness, health and well being using our very own indoor rock climbing wall with employee rock climbing sessions now taking place every Wednesday between 8am and 9am in the Adventure Centre.

Speaking to Chris; the instructor who is leading the activity, he explained that even if staff haven’t tried rock climbing before, he will teach them the skills and techniques required to become a confident climber. The climbing wall has a variety of routes to the top which vary in difficulty so everyone can enjoy a fun and healthy challenge.

Chatting with one of the participants, Kate who currently works in the Guest Services team, she explained that there are many health benefits of climbing - the obvious one being that it builds muscle and encourages weight loss.  Kate actively encourages her colleagues to come along and give climbing a go, she points out that even if you are not trying to lose weight, climbing also promotes brain function and reduces stress making it the ideal way to start the day.
Charlotte another member of staff taking part in the Bluestone Climbing Club expressed that indoor climbing can be considered a very social activity; “it’s a great chance to meet people who work in different areas and departments around the resort” she said.

Charlotte was very intrigued and excited to see this new initiative being offered to staff as climbing is not only a fun experience but also offers a different form of exercise which offers alternative benefits to running and jogging.

Being an employee of Bluestone can improve your wellbeing and health as there are many programmes currently being offered to staff including “stress management”, “the biggest loser” and several craft groups. We have such a diverse range of roles and opportunities on the resort, there’s something for everyone at Bluestone whatever their individual skill set may be.
