The Perfect Mince Pie Recipe

Mince pies are a staple during the festive season! They are so delicious and the perfect sweet snack amongst all the turkey, roast potatoes and other tasty food. Try out our recipe to bake in your luxurious lodge at Bluestone or at home. Just make sure there are enough to share with all of your family and friends!


(Serves 16 or 1 if you really love mince pies!)


375g plain flour

260g unsalted butter, softened

125g caster sugar, plus extra for sprinkling

2-3 tbsp water

A little milk for glazing

For Filling

1 large jar of mincemeat (about 600g)


1)  Sieve the flour into a mixing bowl.

2)  Cut the butter into small cubes and add to the flour.

3)  Rub the flour and the butter together until they look like bread crumbs.

4)  Then add the sugar.

5)  Add 2-3 tablespoons of water and mix to a firm dough be careful not to over mix.

6)  Tip the pastry out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for a few minutes.

7)  Then wrap the pastry in cling film and place it in the fridge for 10 minutes.

8)  Heat oven to 200c fan/Gas mark 7.

9)  Lightly flour your surface and place the chilled pastry on it.

10) Roll out the pastry to about 3mm think.

11) Then using a 10cm round cutters cut out 16 bases and place them into cupcake trays.

12) Then put a tablespoon of mincemeat mixture into each.

13) Brush the rim of the pies with a little milk.

14) Re-roll the pastry and cut out lids with a 7cm round cutter and press them gently on the top to seal.

15) Glaze the tops with milk too and make a small cut in the top to allow the steam to escape.

16) Then bake the mince pies for 15-20 minutes until they are golden brown.

17) Allow them to cool before taking them out of the trays and enjoying!

They are delicious by themselves but as an extra treat why not serve them with brandy cream? Or try them warm with custard or ice cream! It is Christmas after all.
