Well Spa Therapist Charlotte to represent Team UK at WorldSkills Shanghai

By Kathryn Slade Charlotte 620

We’re delighted to announce that our Well Spa therapist Charlotte has won 3rd place at the UK finals of World Skills for level 3 therapists and will now go on to represent the UK at the World Finals in Shanghai, China in 2021!

After winning the Welsh National Final for level 2 Beauty Therapist competitors last year, Charlotte went on to the UK finals where she also finished 3rd overall.

Inspiring apprentices to be ambitious in their careers, WorldSkills UK Competitions equip young people with the right skills to help UK businesses globally, so we caught up with Charlotte to find out more about her journey so far.

“After school I started my Beauty Therapist training with Pembrokeshire College, it was when I was completing my Level 2 qualification that my tutor put me forward for my first WorldSkills UK awards. I came 1st in the regional heat, and then 3rd in the Level 2 Nationals final, I was delighted.

This year I’ve been working on my level 3 qualification, whist working at Bluestone’s The Well Spa Retreat. I’ve learnt so much since starting here, and because the spa is so popular I constantly get to refine my massage technique, so it’s a perfect environment to keep getting better.

I decided to enter for the Level 3 competition this year as it focuses on spa treatments. I came 2nd in the regional finals, and 3rd in the National competition, competing against other young therapists from across the UK.

The finals are split over two days, with the first day focusing on a Bridal makeover and a back treatment, which included a full back exfoliation, a masque and a massage. Every aspect of the treatment is assessed, they look at how neat your masque application is, they’ll check to see that you’ve removed all of the exfoliator and that it’s not on the towels. It’s quite intense but I enjoy it!

On the second day, the task was a personalised facial, followed by a presentation on the process behind it, and what being in the National finals meant. After two busy days I was delighted to be awarded 3rd overall! My placing means that I’ll now go onto represent the UK and Bluestone at the World Finals in Shanghai in 2021, which will be an honour!”

Good luck Charlotte from all of us at Bluestone!
