Princes Trust and Bluestone Help Young Careers

Young people from Pembrokeshire have been given the chance to realise their potential and consider a career in hospitality as part of Bluestone National Park Resort’s latest work with the Prince’s Trust charity.

Nine youngsters aged between 16 and 25 have taken part in Bluestone’s Get Into Hospitality programme and the company has already employed five.

The Prince’s Trust works with companies like Bluestone to offer young people an opportunity to realise their potential and to transform their lives through practical work experience.

“We’ve now held three such training and mentoring events with the Prince’s Trust since 2009, with a fourth planned for next month. It’s been great for us to demonstrate what career opportunities are available to young people and to give them a helping hand in gaining some experience,” said Melanie Thompson, Training Manager at Bluestone.

“Over the two-week programme we provided a range of work placement and training opportunities within Bluestone including the Blue Lagoon water park where lifeguard and first aid training was delivered and  Food and Beverage where a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate was provided.

“They also visited other departments where the team was able to see a different kind of jobs available. We’ve since employed five people from the programme and we’ll certainly invite the others back once relevant vacancies arise.”

Faye Murray of the Prince’s Trust said: “Bluestone is a committed employer that has worked with us for a number of years. Providing opportunities for young people to gain exposure to work experience is important as it builds their confidence and awareness of the possibilities for careers. We’re pleased that Bluestone is committed to supporting our Get Into Hospitality programme.”
