Women In Wales Luncheon Raises £20,000 for Save the Children

Raising funds for Save the Children has always been at the heart of the Women in Wales committee and today members of the committee were delighted and proud to donate £20,000 to fund local projects in Wales. The cheque was accepted on behalf of Save the Children by Vicky Fallon, Head of Community Fundraising and Campaign development for the UK.

The money was raised at the 24th annual Women in Wales Luncheon which took place on 22 April in the SSE SWALEC Stadium, Cardiff paying tribute to the Queen’s 90th Birthday with a Royal Celebration theme.

Guest speaker, Lt. Col Sir Malcolm Ross, GCVO OBE entertained guests with his royal experiences and highlights of eighteen years in the Queen’s Household and the wonderful Vernon Sisters – a trio of singers who have played to Royal audiences provided the entertainment. A fashion show from eight leading Welsh boutiques also featured throughout the lunch.

The fabulous auction items ranged from Wimbledon Centre court tickets and Royal Ascot Ladies day tickets to a Mediterranean cruise and other money can’t buy items and experiences. The Raffle was exceptional this year with over 50 wonderful prizes all kindly donated by businesses and supporters of this annual event.

Chair of the event – Rachel Thomas said, “Women in Wales lunch” has become a firm fixture in the social calendar of so many ladies – it was a sellout event, also a great networking opportunity. The success of the event is due to a hardworking committee and the support of numerous businesses, who are all proud to be involved with this event, which has supported “Children’s projects in Wales for 24 years”.

Also in attendance at the cheque presentation were the 2016 Lunch Headline sponsor, Pamela McNamara, and Yvonne Buckingham from Bluestone National Park Resort in Pembrokeshire.

Pamela McNamara, Commercial & Operations Director said “Bringing together so many women to create such an amazing event that raises money for so many good causes is no easy task. We are delighted to be supporting Women in Wales who demonstrate the benefits such a hard-working group of people can achieve for those less fortunate in Wales”.
