Bluestone’s elves touchdown at Cardiff Airport

Bluestone’s elves touchdown at Cardiff Airport to the surprise of staff and passengers...

Staff and passengers at Cardiff Airport were given an early Christmas surprise thanks to an unscheduled flight of elves.

It came as Bluestone National Park Resort in Pembrokeshire sent its team of actors to the airport terminal as part of a genuine training exercise.

“Bluestone takes Christmas very seriously; anyone who has been to the resort’s Kingdom of the Elves will know how passionate we are about the festive season,” said Bluestone’s Imagineere Liam Hewer.

“That means paying attention to all the little details. Training our Elves to make children (and grown-ups) happy is a priority but that means understanding what people really want.

“Because this year children visiting Bluestone’s Kingdom of the Elves will be ‘flying’ to ‘Elftopia’, we wanted our Elves to understand standard flight protocols, especially as all our little visitors will need their Elf Passports to board the fun.

“It led to the idea of sending a bus load of our Elves to Cardiff Airport to try out their very own plane, and also getting to grips with airport etiquette.”

But whilst there, the mischievous gang couldn’t resist spreading some genuine ‘Elftopia’ cheer by surprising  passengers, not only with their presence, but also with a specially selected gift on the luggage carousel.

“Filming our promotional video had two purposes,” added Liam.

“The storyline sees our Elves mistakenly landing on a plane at Cardiff Airport instead of Elftopia, but rather than getting stressed about their mistake, they decide to bring cheer to unsuspecting  passengers arriving at the terminal, and generally get up to elfish mischief.”

Liam said the premise of the film is to show how Elves can make fun out of even the most difficult of situations, helping to bring cheer everywhere they go.

Elves on a Plane

“This genuinely is a part of their Elf training for Bluestone,” insisted Liam.

“We don’t want our Elves to be defined by a script, they have to really enjoy interacting with people and be able to adapt to the children and parents who visit Elftopia at Bluestone this Christmas.

“We worked in partnership with Cardiff Airport who have been simply fantastic in helping us create what will hopefully be a great video for this year’s Kingdom of the Elves event. We were also, very kindly, given access to an aeroplane for a short time too.

“Obviously the security was quite tight and we had to comply with strict protocols, but Cardiff Airport allowed us to bring a little joy to Wales’ busiest airport, as well as some specially handcrafted chocolates to get passengers into the Christmas spirit.”

Bluestone enlisted the help of the multi-award-winning Wickedly Welsh Chocolate to create some special hand-made chocolate to surprise passengers as they came into arrivals.

Mark Owen, Chief Taster and Chocoholic said: “We knew as soon as we heard about this quirky event, that we’d like to be part of it.  We, like Bluestone, are in the business of making people happy, and what could be nicer than being handed some wonderful Welsh chocolate by an Elf in Cardiff?”.

The event culminated in a promotional video which will be used on Bluestone’s website, giving guests a glimpse of what’s in store during their Christmas break.

Children heading to Bluestone this Christmas will journey into the world of Elftopia and discover some of the magical roles and duties the Elves undertake.

Equipped with their flight suits and Elf Passports in hand, they will fly ‘Elf Airways’ to this magical world. They will need to collect passport stamps as they travel through the stardust workshop, discovering what makes a reindeer fly. Throw down the Elf gauntlet against the adults in Elf skills zone and finish in the magical winter wood with the Elf Snow Queen’s party.
