Chance To Cycle With Geraint Thomas

Welsh Olympic cycling gold medallist Geraint Thomas is all set to pass on his skills and knowledge to budding cyclists in an exclusive cycling training weekend break later this year.

Hot on the heels of this summer’s Olympics, where all hopes are on Geraint to win another gold medal, he’ll be leading group rides, providing tips and an insight into his intensive training throughout the Geraint Thomas Cycling Weekend at Bluestone National Park Resort in Pembrokeshire in October.

Selected for the Men’s Team Pursuit at the London Olympics, Geraint is currently undergoing intense training in the UK and Spain in preparation, but he’s looking forward to returning to Wales in the Autumn.

It follows his successful cycling weekend at Bluestone last year which was oversubscribed.

“It’s full-on at the moment with training for the Olympics and I mean intense. But after the success at Beijing back in 2008 I’m determined to do us proud, as is the team,” said Geraint.

“It’ll be great to get back to Wales in the autumn for the cycling weekend at Bluestone. Last year’s event attracted a lot of interest and it was good for me to get out on the roads with keen cyclists to chat, discuss tactics, and basically have a good time.

“This year we’ll be undertaking two good ride-outs of about 70 miles each as well as some social events and discussion sessions. The scenery in Pembrokeshire is spectacular, so it’s a great backdrop for such an event and I’m really looking forward to getting out and hooking up with everyone.”

The Geraint Thomas Cycle Weekend takes place between Friday, 19th and Monday, 21st October at Bluestone National Park Resort. Places are limited and anyone taking part needs to be able to cycle 70 miles at an average speed of 16mph.

The weekend package includes the use of the thermal rooms at Bluestone’s Well Spa (great for relaxing after a long ride-out), an evening buffet and welcome with Geraint on the first evening, two ride-outs, an afternoon buffet, and a social evening with Geraint on Saturday, before another ride-out on Sunday followed by Sunday lunch and a final presentation, before departing on Monday morning.

“We’re very pleased to be welcoming Geraint back to Bluestone. His cycling weekend will be one of the first opportunities for fans and cyclists to get a chance to ride-out with him after the Olympics,” said Yvonne Buckingham, Head of Marketing at Bluestone.

“Last year’s cycling weekend proved very popular and we had cyclists not just from the UK but even the United States coming along. It’s a great chance to meet Geraint in an intimate environment where they’ll have the chance to talk to him and gain tips, as well as enjoying the great facilities here at Bluestone.”

The ride-outs will be overseen with safety motorcyclists and a support team.

Participants can also bring family and friends who can stay and use the luxury facilities and activities at Bluestone, from the Well Spa to the Blue Lagoon waterpark and Adventure Centre, or the Steep Ravine and fine dining at the Carreg Las restaurant. Special packages are available.
