Pembrokeshire beach wheelchair hire supported by Bluestone

Wheelchair users will now be able to access one of Pembrokeshire’s stunning beaches thanks to support from Bluestone National Park Resort.

A new beach wheelchair service has been introduced at Angle with free hire for users. The wheelchair has been funded by the Pembrokeshire Access Group with support from Bluestone National Park Resort, South Hook LNG, and Milford Haven Port Authority.

It follows the introduction of specially adapted wheelchairs at several beaches across the county.

“We’re very pleased to have supported the wheelchair access at Angle. Pembrokeshire is a stunning place for everyone to enjoy and the new wheelchair hire will ensure everyone can enjoy the beauty and local environment,” said Liz Weedon of Bluestone.

“This new wheelchair is a wonderful example of how organisations in Pembrokeshire can work together for the benefit of all our residents,” said Councillor Rob Lewis, Cabinet Member for Transportation with Pembrokeshire County Council.

The all-terrain wheelchair will be available for hire at the Wave Crest Cafe in West Angle Bay.

Although the vehicle will be free to hire, a £20 deposit will be required.

Pembrokeshire County Council Access Officer Alan Hunt said he was very grateful to the cafe for agreeing to host the vehicle.

“It’s thanks to them, and all the other supporting organisations, that schemes like this are possible,” he said.

A beach wheelchair service is also available at Saundersfoot, while the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park provides wheelchairs at other popular beaches including Poppit Sands, and Whitesands.
