Bluestone Academy Students Celebrate Success

A training programme helping unemployed people into work in the Pembrokeshire tourism industry has graduated its first three students.

The Bluestone Skills Build Academy, a partnership between Bluestone National Park Resort and Pembrokeshire College, has successfully helped three people attain an NVQ in customer service and an in-depth knowledge and experience in customer service.

The graduates have trained in a range of roles at the five-star Bluestone resort near Narberth during an intense 12 week training programme. Two of the graduates have been employed by Bluestone, the third is awaiting a suitable vacancy.
“The Bluestone Academy demonstrates the importance placed on high quality training for anyone entering the tourism or hospitality industry,” said Melanie Thompson, Training and Development Manager at Bluestone National Park Resort.

“We were impressed at the quality of candidates wanting to initially enter the Academy. This has come through with the final three successful graduates achieving NVQ qualifications and an in-depth understanding of the high standards expected within customer service, particularly at a five-star destination such as Bluestone.”

The three graduates are George Hinton, Robert Lewellin and Nicholas Gronow.

“The Bluestone Academy has provided me with an opportunity to train and find employment in a sector that’s vital for Pembrokeshire and West Wales,” said graduate, Mr Hinton.

“I now have an understanding and appreciation of the high standards expected by tourism destinations such as the Bluestone short-break destination. The support and in-depth on the job training has been excellent.”

The Bluestone Skills Build Academy is part of Bluestone’s ongoing commitment to working with local business, organisations and the community overall within Pembrokeshire and West Wales. It received funding from the Welsh Government’s Skill Build programme.

The Academy will run a programme again later in the year.
