Net Zero 2040

Bluestone is Committed to Reaching Net Zero by 2040.

We are proud to be the first holiday resort in the UK1to be completely fossil fuel free in all our purchased energy. This milestone, reached in September 2025, marks the completion of our commitment to operate solely on renewable energy sources. Our emission reductions, targets and measurements align with the Paris Agreement, aiming to restrict warming to less than 1.5°C.

Progress towards this achievement included building our on-site Solar Park which generates enough electricity to meet around one third of annual demand. The rest of our electricity is purchased entirely from verified, zero-carbon, renewable sources within the UK. This has been supported by the transition to a fully electric small vehicle fleet; switching from diesel and kerosene to HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil), for our farm vehicles and back-up boilers; switching Liquid Petroleum Gas to BioLPG made from food waste. We have a long standing track record on renewable energy, our Blue Lagoon Water Park was amongst the first in the world to be heated by local, sustainable biomass.

We are working hard to completely decarbonise our operations, purchased energy and supply chain. Our Fossil Fuel Free milestone has helped us reduce our market-based carbon footprint for scopes 1 and 2 by more than 96%, and keeps us on track for Net Zero across all 3 scopes by 2040. As we move forward, we will work hard to develop more onsite renewables, and to move away from transitionary fuels like the HVO and BioLPG. Scope 3 emissions present the largest challenge; work is well underway to engage and support our suppliers to reduce their carbon emissions.

Hogspital

Nature Regeneration

Today biodiversity is thriving at Bluestone, but that wasn’t always the case. The resort was built on land that had low ecological value and had been farmed intensively for dairy and forestry.
